Circus artist Kai Kuutamo and accordionist Toni Perttula take the audience on an imaginative trip to an unknown and amazing space filled with light and music. The performance combines an acoustic accordion with juggling with instruments of light and different kinds of lamps.
The Collector of Sorrows is a hybrid between a fairy and an angel that roams among people and whispers in the language of fairies. She collects sorrows from around her and lets them vanish into thin air. The Collector of Sorrows wants to leave peace, harmony and joy, lightness and an unhurried feeling behind her.

The Path of Light at WAM

- Glow painting workshop 17:00–20:30. In the workshop, we play with UV paints and make small paintings on the skin and/or on paper.
Guerilla projections is a mobile art contraption mounted on a frame of an electric bicycle. It moves around ecologically and shows videos even in quite surprising places using a battery and a projector with low power consumption. It spreads the joy of light and art around the city, coming to where people are. You may suddenly spot the guerilla projections swishing by you. Or you can see them stopped somewhere to paint walls with light.
Turku Street-O organises weekly urban orienteering events in the areas of Turku and the neighbouring municipalities. This year, one of the events functions as a preparty for the Path of Light event. Find the control points, answer the questions related to them and learn more about the illuminated works of art and the Turku National Urban Park.
On the central square of the University of Turku will be erected a blue pyramid of light. It will rise to the height of hundreds of metres and, depending on the weather conditions, be visible from kilometres away. The pyramid of light is a rooflike element that visitors can experience from many different angles. The work of art will pinpoint the location of the University of Turku in the urban landscape and invite people to come and visit the campus. The artwork will be implemented by the Path of Light production team.
Graffiti artist Jouni “Psyke” Väänänen has created graffiti art that glows under UV lighting. The series of works consists of 12 portraits of people acting in the art, culture and events scene. The initial impetus for the series came from the annoyance Väänänen felt with how the actors in the field were treated during the COVID-19 pandemic. The QR codes next to the paintings open a video of each of the persons portrayed and their story about the pandemic. The large portrays were painted with spray paints that glow in vibrant colours under UV light.
The lighting of the Theatre Bridge is an essential part of Christmas in Turku. The bridge was first illuminated in 2016 and since then, it has been a beloved part of the city's seasonal lighting. Turku City Theatre is responsible for creating the lighting for the bridge, and its theme is always related to a topical play in the theatre’s programme.

The new Christmas Market in Market Square will be a modern and warm-hearted Christmas event which centres around people, light, music, and food and drink. Built around a free carousel, the Turku Christmas Market will consist of shopping alleys, diverse food options, mulled wine bars and pleasant seating areas. The Market Square stage is the main performance space for the Christmas Market. Turku Food & Wine Fest Oy, which organises the Christmas Market, also runs the Kirkkopuisto Park Terrace in the summer.
The street carnival group Fauna Humana is a band of dancers and musicians whose characters resemble human-like animals – or animal-like humans. Fauna Humana always stands for what is right, defending citizens from everyday apathy! The group's activities are a mixture of carnival, performance, puppet theatre, masque, dance and mime. The impressive street theatre characters weave among the audience and present a couple of dance performances together with the musicians.
The echo is a grandiose and action-packed fire show that showcases the best of flow arts! The echo, the whisper of fire, is shaped in the hands of skilled fire performers, growing and expanding through the power of expressive dance into a full blaze. This professional-quality fire show combines dance and skilful dexterity.
Light weaves its intangible threads through the tapestry of reality. It scintillates gracefully, illuminating the world with its radiant touch. It bathes the mundane in an arcane glow, unveiling hidden treasures and breathing life into the ordinary. Shapes emerge from the ethereal mist, embodying the language of form. They intertwine and collide, creating a dance of structure and chaos. Each hue carries a story, an emotion waiting to be expressed. Shadows, like elusive companions, tango with the light, shaping and defining the contours of existence.
In the past 20 years, 60 percent of our flying insects have disappeared. Pollination is an essential part of biodiversity and functioning ecosystems. The reduction of habitats, due to the use of pesticides, affects the reproduction of pollinators and, consequently, the survival of species. Ultraviolet Reality invites us to reflect on the decline of flower meadows and pollinators, climate change, and human impact on nature.
What would it be like to be a tree? What forms do the echoes of tree growth create in human movement? How can a person's body grow needles or drain resin?
More than 100 languages are spoken by Turku residents as their mother tongue, and the city’s population includes more than 130 nationalities. The audio track for Love gives a voice to Turku residents of different ages and different languages, who each speak of what it means to them to love and care for one another. At the same time, the work seeks to remind us that knowledge of different languages enriches society.
Blaze is a light ambience of the warmest tones that conjures up a rich atmosphere in the darkness of Cathedral Park. The artwork has been carried out by the Path of Light production team.

During the Path of Light, the Lux et Umbra exhibition of the Wäinö Aaltonen Museum will expand beyond the museum’s walls. Antti Kulmala’s artwork Vectors of Light, based on his identically-named work from the Lux et Umbra exhibition, brings to the museum’s facade the atmosphere and visual magic of the original piece. The work combines analogue and digital art. It invites the viewer to immerse themselves in a continually shifting visual tapestry that offers diverse perspectives and impressions on the themes of light, colour and movement.
Underworld is a spatial installation in form of luminous forms depicting an imaginary tiny undersea settlement. The project emerged from the aim to put attention onto sensitive sea life and its fragile environment.
When you look into a mirror what do you see?
Through The Cracks The Light Shines In is an interactive light installation that invites the observer to question the sense of self and the importance of recognizing how self-perceived flaws are experiences that made the whole stronger. Our perceptions of ourselves and others is often distorted through the lens of our experiences. This installation reflects our flaws as beauty, as we are all broken to some degree, but these fissures in our spirit are what make us unique.
During the Path of Light event, the construction site of the new Astra campus centre will be illuminated by a light installation designed by Path of Light Production. The artwork hovers about half a kilometre above the construction site and illustrates how the new building is taking shape. The building constructions are part of the light installation. In interaction with the darkness, haze and contrasts of the construction site, the light installation creates an experience of beauty, innovation and anticipation
Vartiovuori is a virtual amusement park created by media artist Pasi Rauhala. The amusement park has three virtual rides made with AR (augmented reality). In this interactive piece, people can join in the fun with the park mascot, Gado the bear. With webAR technology, you interact with the piece online at webpage, no separate app needed.
Luminous Harmonies light installation invites you to experience an immersive combination of light and music originating from the Turku region. Will you choose a joyful party, mysterious sounds, or something else?
Light installation is a part of the Light Adventure event. By completing a few kilometers long route with 8 checkpoints in the Turku Center, you get to light up the installation.
Installation is located in the park in front of the City Hall (Aurakatu 2) from 6rd December 2023 until 7th January 2024. Participate daily between 4 PM to 9 PM.
