The prohibition of driving motor vehicles (with some exceptions) on the Aurasilta Bridge will enter into force on 10 January. In the same context, the period of validity of the prohibition on driving through the centre, which was already imposed in the city centre of Turku, will be clarified. The goal is to make it easier for the public transport to circulate in the city centre.

The prohibition of driving motor vehicles on the Aurasilta Bridge will enter into force on 10 January. According to the decision issued by the Urban Environment Committee of the City of Turku, the prohibition applies to other motor vehicles than busses, taxes, bicycles and lorries. The prohibition will be in force on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.

In the same framework, the validity period of the prohibition of driving through the centre, which was previously imposed, will be aligned with the validity period of the prohibition on driving on the Aurasilta Bridge.

There will be road signs and traffic signals on the streets on both sides of the bridge reminding people of the prohibition.

We aim with the prohibition to make it easier for the public transport to circulate in the current situation where it is transferred to temporary routes because of the construction work of the car park of the Turku Market Square. The effects of the prohibition will be estimated in six months.

We had to add two more days before the prohibition of driving motor vehicles on the Aurasilta Bridge could enter into force in order to get the necessary road signs and traffic signals at place. According to the initial decision of the Urban Environment Committee of the City of Turku, the prohibition of driving motor vehicles was supposed to enter into force on 8 January 2020.
