What Is the City Centre of Your Dreams Like?
Do you want to have a city centre that is completely dedicated for walking? Do you want to have a safe city centre for cycling? How about having a living city centre for the culture? Do you want to have a versatile shopping centre in the city centre? These wishes could come true only if the underground parking facility of the Market Square will be built.
The underground parking facility of the Market Square is part of the renovation project of the centre of the City of Turku. The motor traffic around the Market Square should be redirected underground in order to get Finland’s greatest centre for walking, cycling and leisure.
A parking facility for around 600–800 cars can be built in two levels according to the town-planning scheme. When about 200 parking places around the market place will be removed, there will be more space for pedestrians and cyclists.
There will be four connections by the elevators and along the stairs to the Market Square. In addition, there will be five underground gateways that will lead directly to the premises around the Market Square.
A company called Turun Toriparkki Oy has been established to advance and to realize the car park project at the Market Square. The company was established by a group of local entrepreneurs and real estate owners.
