As a Non-resident in Turku

Non-residents, meaning persons living outside Turku, can apply for a right to study in the schools of Turku. The parent or guardian should deliver the application directly to the school they wish to apply to.

For non-residents the longest period for which a right to go to school can be granted is the duration of primary school (years 1–6) or the duration of secondary school (years 7–9) at the most. A school that features all years from 1 to 9 may decide to grant the right directly up to the ninth year. The decision will be made by the principal of the school. Parents of a student who needs special support should contact the Special Service Director.

Students who have been accepted to special classes or language-oriented classes

Parents or guardians of students who have been accepted into special or language-oriented classes must submit a non-resident application. A non-resident can apply to only one school in Turku. Non-residents are accepted only if student places are not filled by students resident in Turku.

Students moving from Turku to another municipality

If the parent or guardian wishes the student to continue as a non-resident in a school in Turku, the parent or guardian must submit a non-resident application.

The permission will be granted either for years 1–6 or 7–9. A school that features all years from 1 to 9 may decide to grant the right directly up to the ninth year.
